So, is honesty really the best policy?

Well, the truth is, we lie to each other all the time. During a short conversation, we can tell up to thirty lies, and that is just on a good day. So, most likely, honesty would be too shocking to our human experience to be anything but disastrous, anyway. Honesty often gets us into more trouble with more suspicion attached to our names than if we had just told a lie.
